Please read the Cyberbullying Scenario below:
Katie has just moved to Ft. Benning from Illinois and has enrolled in Faith Middle School. Very pretty, friendly, outgoing, and funny, she quickly wins the attention of a number of the school's football players -- much to the chagrin of the school's cheerleaders. Amy, the head cheerleader, is concerned about Katie stealing away her boyfriend, Scott, one of the cutest guys in the school. With the help of her cheerleader friends, Amy decides to create a "We Hate Katie" Web site where the girls can post reasons why they hate Katie and why they think she should move back to Illinois. Soon, the entire school becomes aware of the site's Web address, and many others begin to post hurtful sentiments about Katie. The students begin to laugh at her as she walks down the hall and nobody wants to be on her team or sit near her in class or in the cafeteria. Although she desparately wanted to make friends at her new school, Katie is crushed and begins to suffer from depression and a lack of desire to do anything aside from crying in bed.

Unfortunately, some people find it easier to bully rather than offer friendship -- and it is particularly harmful when they use the Internet to spread ugly and false rumors. Why do you believe that people use the Internet to spread vicious lies? Write a letter to Katie or Amy explaining your position about bullying. In the letter suggest at least three things either girl could do to resolve the current problem. Also, present at least one idea that you feel the school or the parents could do to prevent this problem in the future.
